Trekking in Patagonia
(Argentina & Chile)

Chile and Argentina share the southernmost part of Latin America - Patagonia. Even if we know little of the place, the name itself can conjure up vivid images of desolation, wilderness, endless mountains and screeching wind and storm. It has been called 'el fin del mundo' or 'the uttermost part of the earth.'

Here in Patagonia, the Andes mountain range shows its true beauty with some of the most spectacular mountains on the planet. We can only gasp at the near vertical granite towers of Las Torres del Paine, the sheer buttresses of Cerro Fitzroy and erupting out of the Patagonian ice-cap itself, the rock spires of Cerro Torre.

Argentinean Patagonia
This is a breathtaking landscape of impressive glaciers descending from the continental ice field. Thirteen glaciers on the Atlantic side break into huge ice towers which plunge into the waters of lakes like Viedma and Argentino. We can stand only a few metres away from the Perito Moreno glacier which descends spectacularly into Lago Arentino constantly moving and cracking as large pieces fall off.

Chilean Patagonia
Southern Patagonia, known as Magallanes, is a world apart, where the broad expanses of the pampa meet with the glacially sculpted spires of the Andes. Las Torres del Paine National Park and World Biosphere Reserve is the most famous of the vast protected areas in Magallanes, preserving habitat for guanacos, foxes, rheas and flamingos. South of the park is Puerto Natales, terminal for southbound ferries from Puerto Montt.
