The Picos de Europa
The Picos de Europa lie only 15 kms from the sea but the peaks soar dramatically to 2600m. The range is split into three massifs separated by rivers and deep gorges where we can expect to see Golden eagles, griffons, and Egyptian vultures. The region is also rich in culture, a traditional style of farming and small settlements of attractive old stone buildings.
The trip includes some truly classic mountain walking with long days on rocky and exciting terrain.
We spend the first two nights based in the dramatic Camale Valley before moving west to the historic village of Cain at the start of the Cares Gorge.
Following an overnight stay at the base of the Picos' most celebrated peak, El Naranjo de Bulnes, we make an exciting traverse that takes in the summit of Pena Vieja (2613m) and offers an unrivalled panorama of the area.
