Journey to Kilimanjaro
If you are going to climb ‘Kili’ give yourself every chance! An original itinerary where our ascent is preceded by a magnificent safari style build-up as we journey easily from Nairobi, through a mix of classic East African experiences to the foot of the great Mt Kilimanjaro and begin our ascent.
Game viewing in the Amboseli National Park should feature elephant and giraffe. Bush camps and walks with the Maasai will reveal lifestyles and local cultures. A game drive in the Ngorongoro crater, often described as the eighth wonder of the world, will be a highlight before a final climb to the crater rim at Empekaai and a chance to gauge acclimatisation and fitness. Finally an easy day to relax and refocus with options to visit markets and local villages.
All that remains is to ascend the highest mountain in Africa at 5896m via the scenic Machame route and bring a wealth of rewarding experiences and our rich journey to an exciting climax.
What did you enjoy most about the trip?
"The people. The Tanzanians are just so friendly, accepting and helpful. It was wonderful to meet so many, to see their villages and “live” with a group of them for a short while. Learnt so much from their attitude to life. The two climbs were great but it was doing it as a crew that made it so memorable. It was a personal achievement to get to the summits but to be honest it was the whole journey in such dramatic scenery that was the more meaningful part."
