Alpamayo Circuit
This is a tremendous trek which avoids the more frequented trails. It crosses a major pass almost every day as it encircles many of the great summits of the Cordillera Blanca, the triple peaks of Santa Cruz, Chacraraju, Pucajirca and of course Alpamayo.
Our 10 day trek, preceded by some early acclimatisation days, is remarkably sustained and amazingly varied and always on good trails. The eight exhilarating passes we cross, reveal fluted snow peaks and hanging glaciers at every viewpoint.
Turquoise glacial lakes in high alpine cirques drop down to broad valleys where we expect to see condors soaring. High Andean villages, where rugged campesinos tend hard-earned crops of potatoes and barley, and graze sheep, alpacas and horses, complete the tapestry. There will be little doubt that we have seen the Cordillera Blanca at its very best.
