Our classic South American experience! Time to marvel at the colonial splendour of ‘old’ Quito before setting off on our journey along the ‘Avenue of Volcanoes’ beginning with high level walking beneath the snow-capped cone of the famous Cotopaxi volcano. We hike the three day Quilatoa trail to its spectacular crater lake, visit Ecuador’s largest local market at nearby Saquisili and take time off in the colourful holiday town of Baños.
Dropping down off the Andes into the dense green canopy of the Amazon headwaters, we spend time walking deeper into the forest, riding the river in longboats, absorbing the culture, the flora and fauna and living in simple lodges.
Out of the jungle to the Papallacta hot pools before flying to the Galapagos Islands, 600km across the Pacific. Over seven days and from three bases, we island-hop each day between the different islands. With a diet of tropical fruit, fresh fish and sunshine, we can swim and snorkel with sea-lions, turtles and iguanas, and tiptoe close to tortoises and birds so tame that you will never need a long lens.
