We trek and hike in two of the most magnificent mountain areas in the world, around the immense rock towers and icefalls of Paine and Fitzroy.
The first sighting of the Fitzroy skyline, unsurpassed except perhaps for the mighty Karakoram peaks, will be profound and breathtaking. Dwarfed by granite cliffs and spires rising 2600 metres above us we make a five day trek around lakes, through native beech forests and over bare mountainsides, circling beneath the magnificent Cerro Torre and Cerro Fitzroy range. The trek ends on a high viewpoint over the Patagonian ice cap, the largest continental ice field outside of the Poles.
Now into Chile and the Paine National Park, best known for its vertical granite marvels – Las Torres (The Towers) scene of some of the hardest mountaineering in the world and Las Cuernos (The Horns). We trek the ‘W’ trail with hiking forays up the spectacular side valleys – Ascensio, Frances and Grey – for close up views s of some of the wildest scenery in South America.
